How to Print for Best Results
A few things that make a real difference between a page that's satisfying to color and one that isn't:
Always print at 100% — never "fit to page." Scaling down compresses the lines and makes the shapes harder to color neatly, especially for younger children. The pages are designed to fill a standard 8.5x11 sheet at actual size.
Use the right paper for the right tool. Standard 20lb copy paper is fine for crayons and colored pencils. If your child prefers markers, step up to 24lb or 32lb paper to prevent bleed-through. Cardstock (65lb+) works beautifully with any medium and the pages feel noticeably more substantial when finished.
Black and white print settings. Select "grayscale" or "black & white" in your print dialog — this ensures the outlines print as true black rather than dark grey, which makes them easier to color up to cleanly.
Which Pages for Which Ages
The category guide above includes age recommendations, but here's the quick reference if you want to cut straight to the right section:
| Age | Best Categories | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 3-4 | Farm Animals, Vehicles | Large shapes, thick outlines, familiar subjects |
| 4-6 | Wild Animals, Ocean Life, Fantasy | More detail but still bold lines and clear forms |
| 5-8 | Characters, Nature, Holidays | Scene-based pages with multiple elements to color |
| 6-10 | Space, Characters | More complex compositions, rewards patience |
| 7-12 | Patterns | Fine lines, high detail, adult techniques apply |
